In 1936, Levi Stubbs of The Four Tops was born and Gary U.S. Bonds was born in 1939. Howie Kane of Jay and the Americans was born in 1942 while Clarence of The Byrds, Edgar Ffoese of Tangerine Dream and Peter Albin of Janis Joplin Band were born in 1944. In 1955, Michael Wallace of Third World was born and Robert Hodgens of The Bluebells was born in 1959. Steve Vai of Whitesnake was born in 1960, D.C. Lee of Wham! and Tom Araya of Slayer were both born in 1961, David White of Brother Beyond in 1965 and Gary Newby from The Railway Children in 1966. Korn's James Shaffer was born in 1970 and The Libertines' Carl Barat in 1978. In 1987, Kyle Falconer of The View was born.

In 1960, The Silver Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers were at the Grosvenor Ballroom in Liscard, Lancashire, England. Bing Crosby received a Platinum disc to commemorate the selling of his 200 millionth record.

In 1962, The Beatles' first recording session took place at the Abbey Road Studios in Westminster, London, England.

In 1964, The Dixie Cups started their first of three weeks as number one on the US' singles chart with their song "Chapel of Love". It was 22nd in the United Kingdom.

In 1966, Roy Orbison's first wife was killed when a truck hit the motorbike she and Orbison were on in Gallatin, Tex.

In 1968, at the Freehold Hullabaloo in Freehold, NJ, Screaming Lord Sutch made an appearance with The Castiles as the supporting band.

In 1970, Christie's song "Yellow River" placed the band at number one on the UK's singles chart. Bands Colosseum, Taste, Atomic Rooster, Matthews Southern, Comfort, Brinsley Schwarz, The Strawbs and Daddy Longlegs were at the Buxton Festival in Derbyshire, England. Syd Barrett played for the first time at the Extravaganza '70 at London's Olympia after having left Pink Floyd.

In 1971, John & Yoko performed with Frank Zappa at The Filmore East in New York.

In 1979, Def Leppard performed at the Crookes Working Men's Club in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The performance was reviewed in the UK's music paper
Sounds which then led to a contract with Phonogram Records.

In 1982, at The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Cal., Tom Petty, Crosby Stills & Nash, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Nicks and Jackson Browne made appearances.

In 1986, Dick Rowe from Decca records died of diabetes.

In 1987, Kim Wilde's song "You Keep Me Hanging On" put her in the number one spot on the US' singles chart. It was number two in the UK. Live In The City Of Light by Simple Minds was the band's third number one album in the UK. Whitney Houston's song "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" was her second number in the UK. Michael Jackson said he was breaking ties with the Jehovah's Witnesses.

In 1992, Lionel Richie started his first of six weeks at number one with his Back To Front on the UK's album chart.

In 1998, B*Witched's song "C'est La Vie" was their first number one single in the UK. Boyzone's Where We Belong was their third number one album in the UK. Brandy & Monica started their first of 11 weeks as number one with their song "The Boy Is Mine" on the US' singles chart.

In 1999, Baz Luhrmann was number one on the UK's singles chart with the song "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)". Plans for a tour in the UK of a virtual version of Elvis Presley with a live orchestra and his band members were announced. Backstreet Boys started their first of five weeks as number one on the US' album chart with their album Millennium, their first number one.

In 2003, Dave Rowberry of The Animals died. A judge in a London High court said that rap lyrics are to be treated as a foreign language.

In 2004, Avril Lavigne's Under My Skin placed her in the number one spot on the US' album chart. This was her second number one hit in the US. The song "I Don't Wanna Know" by Mario Winans featuring Enya and P Diddy was number one on the UK's singles chart.

In 2006, Billy Preston died of kidney failure.

In 2008, Ki McPhail and Owen Doyle of Busted lost a royalties battle over £10 million. They claimed they were forced to give up their rights and that they had wrote songs with two other band members when the group started in 2001. The judge criticized their evidence and dismissed their claims.

In 2009, Eminem started his first of two weeks at number one for Relapse on the US' album chart. This was his sixth studio album.

And in 2010, Marvin Isley of the Isley Brothers died.
